Abstract:
Ethical hacking is a crucial tool for protecting organizations’ digital assets and infrastructures, as it enables security gaps to be discovered and fixed before they are exploited. As part of red teams, ethical hackers and penetration testers hunt down flaws and vulnerabilities in networks and systems using techniques similar to those of malicious hackers, but without causing harm to organizations’ data or digital assets.
According to the report Inside the Mind of a Hacker 2021, ethical hackers working on the platform Bugcrowd have prevented USD 27 billion in losses. The report also states that 91% of ethical hackers believe that point-in-time testing is insufficient to keep organizations safe. In addition, the increasing adoption of emerging technologies, such as the Internet of Things (IoT) and blockchain, has drastically changed the scope of cybersecurity.
To become a successful ethical hacker, it is essential to acquire computer networking skills, Linux skills, and programming skills. She holds a Master of Science in computer and information systems security and information assurance from the University of Maryland (Global Campus). Lisa was an associate professor in the IT department at the Pennsylvania College of Technology in Williamsport, PA, until her retirement in 2020. She is involved with various volunteer activities, and she and her husband Mike enjoy bike riding, watching movies, and traveling.
