      Curriculum: Master of Science in Computer Science (MCS)

      Due to the changing technological landscape and the increased risks associated with this change, organizations now need to make cybersecurity a priority in order to protect their data, networks, and digital structure so they can remain functional and productive.

      ECCU 500 Managing Secure Network Systems
      This course focuses on evaluating network and Internet cybersecurity issues, designing and implementing successful security policies and firewall strategies, and exposing the system and network vulnerabilities and defending against them. Topics include network protocols, network attacks, intrusion detection systems, packet filtering, and proxy servers, Bastion host and honey pots, hardening routers, hardening security, e-mail security, virtual private networks, and creating fault tolerance. Upon successful completion of this course, students may take the Certified Network Defender (CND) certification exam through EC-Council.
      ECCU 501 Ethical Hacking and Countermeasures
      This course focuses on how perimeter defenses work and how intruders escalate privileges and methods of securing systems. Additional topics include intrusion detection, policy creation, social engineering, DoS attacks, buffer overflows, and virus creation. Upon successful completion of this course, students may take the Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH) certification exam through EC-Council.
      ECCU 505 Introduction to Research and Writing
      This foundational course introduces students to basic English writing skills and research methods, including APA style writing, citing sources, determining when a website is credible, effective communication, outlines, and collaboration. Students will write/present portions of the above in the course in various formats.
      ECCU 507 Linux Networking and Security
      This course explores various tools and techniques commonly used by Linux system administrators. It is designed for students who have limited or no previous exposure to Linus. Emphasis is placed on writing a simple bash script, using a text editor, manage processes within the Linux file system. Additional topics include data security, user security, and file security. Students will be required to take on the role of problem solvers and apply the concepts presented to situations that might occur in a work environment.
      ECCU 510 Secure Programming
      Certified Application Security Engineer (CASE) is a hands-on, Instructor-led, comprehensive application security course, which encompasses security activities involved in all of the phases of the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC). The course also focuses on selecting and implementing the right security strategies, guidelines, and practices that are widely accepted and applicable to most environments used today.
      CS 510 Operating Systems
      This class is designed to provide students a working knowledge of operating system concepts to support programming, systems architecture, administration, and cyber security. Key topics include operating system structures, processes, threads and concurrency, scheduling, synchronization, deadlocks, memory management, file systems, I/O, security, protection, virtual machines, networks, and distributed systems. Linux and Windows 10 will also be discussed.
      CS 511 Design of Algorithms
      This course is an introduction to object-oriented design and data structures using the popular Python programming language. The level of instruction assumes at least one semester of programming in an object-oriented language such as Java, C++, or Python. We cover such topics as the design of collection classes with polymorphism and inheritance, multiple implementations of collection interfaces, and the analysis of the space/time tradeoffs of different collection implementations (specifically array-based implementations and link-based implementations). Collections covered include sets, lists, stacks, queues, trees, dictionaries, and graphs.
      CS 512 Data Systems
      This course provides a practical grounding in data science from a computer science perspective. The course teaches through hands-on case studies requiring programming. Competencies include using data structures and algorithms to perform data mining, classification, regression, clustering, and machine learning.
      CS 513 Blockchain
      This class highlights competence in the field of secure and trusted transaction systems using blockchain. Students will understand the need and approach of blockchain technology to cryptocurrency, smart contracts, and other applications. They will develop blockchain applications using opensource technologies to advance their knowledge and skills.
      CS 514 Robotics
      This class is designed to provide students a broad introduction to the field of Robotics while continuing their study in Artificial Intelligence, the robot operating system (ROS), navigation, planning, python for robotics, and fundamentals of Linux
      CS 515 Artificial Intelligence
      This class is designed to provide students a broad introduction to the field of Artificial Intelligence. Students will develop skills in various types of search, problem representation, knowledge representation, and intelligent agents. Programming projects taught during the program develop skills needed to apply these topics in the real world. Problems suitable and unsuitable for AI will be distinguished.
      ECCU 519 Capstone
      The Capstone is the summative experience designed to allow students to demonstrate all program objectives and draw on the knowledge and skills earned throughout the entire program.

      The Master of Science in Computer Science program has its own stipulated requirements for acceptance. The incumbent must have a bachelor’s degree from an accredited U.S. institution or its international equivalent and likely already employed in technology fields. A work experience of two to three years in the domain of technology is preferred.

      • Associate’s Cybersecurity Scholarship – This is a need-based scholarship, designed to provide continuing education tuition assistance to undergraduate students who have graduated from a U.S. college with an earned associate’s degree. The award will be a one-time scholarship of up to $2,000 to continue your education in ECCU’s Bachelor of Science in Cybersecurity program.
      • The President’s Choice Scholarship for Women – EC-Council University is dedicated to bringing women’s minds together by providing tuition assistance for women pursuing undergraduate and graduate studies in cybersecurity. A one-time scholarship of up to $2,000 may be awarded to women recognized by EC-Council University.
      • The Cybersecurity Dean’s Scholarship – This is a need-based scholarship. The award will be continuous through the program of study in a scholarship amount of 10% of tuition for selected applicants.
      • New Mexico Scholarship – This is once again is a need-based scholarship, designed for students that are current residents of the state of New Mexico. The award will be continuous through the program of study in a scholarship amount of 10%.
      • Heroes Scholarship – This, too, is a need-based scholarship for students who are either on active duty in the U.S. military or are military veterans or first responders. It also applies to military personnel and first responders of other countries. The award will be continuous through the program of study in a scholarship amount of 10% of tuition for selected applicants.

      The fee structure of this program includes expenses under these heads: Application fees: $35 (one time), Technology Fee: $50 per term, Graduation Fee: $200 (One time) Transcript Fee: $10 + Shipping, iLabs Fee: $200, Specialization: Security Analyst Fee: $1200. The fee structure also includes specialization fees and the course fee per credit hour is $540.

      Aspiring students who have met the following conditions are eligible to apply for the master’s degree in computer science:

      • Have earned their bachelor’s degree or foreign equivalent from an appropriately accredited institution that is listed in the International Handbook of Universities, accredited by an agency recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education, and/or the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA).

      EC-Council University will award the Master of Science in Computer Science with Cybersecurity specialization upon successful completion of all degree requirements. In addition to the specific degree requirements, each candidate for graduation must meet the following requirements:

      • Completion of thirty-six (36) credits of 500 level courses in which the candidate earned a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better
      • Satisfactory completion of the summative capstone course
      • Completion of all degree requirements within one and a half times the program length or a cumulative course completion rate of 67% of coursework from the date the student enrolls in the university and begins the M.S. in Information Security program
