ECCU 512: Beyond Business Continuity

According to the Boston Computing Network’s Data Loss Statistics “60% of companies that lose their data will shut down within 6 months of the disaster” According to CloudBackup’s Facts about Data Loss: “About 70% of business people have experienced (or will experience) data loss due to accidental deletion, disk or system failure, viruses, fire or some other disaster” (Source: Carbonite, an online backup service). To be prepared for this type of event, and “Save the Day” for your business this is one half component piece of the puzzle.

Purpose of Class:

This course is designed to provide knowledge of organizational changes beyond Business Continuity Planning (BCP). Business Continuity Planning is the process of protecting organizations from the deleterious effects on their IT missions that can result from outages in information systems. Non-computer support structures and systems may not be recognized and, therefore, not brought into the protection definition process. This course goes into these systems and provides the IT manager with knowledge about the general processes of change and the behaviors that accompany an organization. Planning of this kind will prevent the possibility of forming a myopic view of corporate functions.

Course Learning Outcomes:

Students who successfully complete this class will be able to:

  1. Apply of technical strategies, tools and techniques to secure data and Information for a customer or client.
  2. Adhere to a high standard of ethical behavior
  3. Use of research in both established venues and innovative applications to expand the body of knowledge in information assurance
  4. Apply of principles of critical thinking to creatively and systematically solve the problems to meet the challenges of the ever-changing environments of cyber security
  5. Master of the skills necessary to move into leadership roles in companies, agencies, divisions, or departments.
